Hi people
Some Waterloo computer engineers on the last day of classes
I’m back in Toronto right now on co-op. I’m working at IBM again. It feels great to be back. I’m working at a completely different IBM location however. I used to work at a place called the Toronto Lab, which is basically an enormous software development centre. Now I’m at the IBM Canada headquarters. It seems like this place is mostly filled with people in HR, sales, marketing and consulting. Although I’m still writing software, I’m technically a part of the consulting division (hence the change of location).
During my orientation, one of the people in HR specifically emphasized that the dress code is business casual (dun dun dun!). Now, I don’t exactly dress like a slob to work. I actually think that I’m dressed pretty well most of the time. Still, this kind of worried me. Does this mean that I’ll never be able to go to work in jeans and a t-shirt?! Will I have to replace half my wardrobe?!
It just so happens that on my first day, there was a bit of a mix up and I waited in the lobby for about half an hour before someone in my department came to greet me. As I waited, I noted that almost every single person that passed by was wearing a nice pair of dress pants, or khakis with a dress shirt. Some of them were even wearing *gasp* business suits. Aurgh, I’m not the kind of person that wants to be a total techie all my life, so I know that this kind of thing was bound to happen, but I don’t think I’m ready yet.
Just then, for the first time, I see someone walk in wearing jeans. Blue jeans. And a white t-shirt. Cool. He walks over to me. “Excuse me, are you Jason?”
Boyakasha!
That made my day. : )
The new cell phone On another note, I just recently got a new cell phone: the Siemens S40. I think it’s an awesome phone.
