I'm Back

I must say, 3B was a killer term. It wasn't overly difficult conceptually, but it was a lot of work. I was pretty stressed out and my sleeping patterns are completely messed up. I was really looking forward to relaxing in Toronto. My family knew it too and my first day back, they took me to Congee Wong to get some of that fried rice that I love so much. We got there at about 6. There should have been a 30 minute wait for a table, but instead there were only two other parties in the restaurant. The experience was surreal. All these Asian plazas and restaurants seem almost deserted. I guess people are worried about SARS. I had no idea it was this bad here since Waterloo is relatively SARS free. I think there's only been one infection. I haven't been out much since. What really bothers me are people like the mayor of New York who said something like, "people should use common sense, the chances of getting SARS are smaller than the chances of getting hit by a car. They should be more worried about crossing the street than coming to Chinatown." That kind of comment just sounds irresponsible. Sure, I feel sorry for all the people who suffer financially because business isn't business as usual, but this is serious. The difference between SARS and car accidents is that the number of fatal car accidents doesn't increase exponentially.

On a lighter note, I finally made the switch to Linux. I'm actually writing this blog with Linux right now. I've heard people say that Linux isn't ready for the desktop. In my opinion, that's probably true for non-technical people . I installed Mandrake 9.1, which is probably the most easy to use Linux distribution, but I still had to do several things that would have definitely been too much for a beginner. Still, Linux is a great operating system if you know what you're doing. It's definitely a programmer's paradise.
