Christine's Here!

I've been pretty busy working on my TU project for the past little while. I've been enjoying it quite a bit, but there isn't too much I can say about it that I'm sure isn't confidential.

Our CEO, Joe Liemandt, dropped by India recently. As you might expect, he's a great speaker. He really impressed me with his business and technical knowledge. Unfortunately for him, he was here during his birthday and my colleagues were given the perfect excuse to give him "bumps". For those who have never been exposed to this phenomenon, it's really quite amusing. As far as I can tell, when you accomplish something good or if it's your birthday, someone will decide to yell out "bumps!" at the top of their lungs. Everyone within earshot must then converge on the poor victim and begin to open a can of whoop-ass. I have pictures, but I'd fear for my job if I posted them. :)

As great as it was for Joe to visit, I'm really much more excited about the fact that Christine is now here in India visiting me. She's actually been here since Sunday night. I've tried to take her to "safe" restaurants and I'm quite proud to say that she hasn't gotten sick yet. :) unfortunately, I don't think Christine has much to do except for reading while I'm at work. The day after she arrived, I took the day off and decided to show her around downtown Bangalore, which is just beside the hotel, so that she would know a few places to go to shop and eat. I'm not exactly sure why, but there were actually a lot of people openly staring at us while we were walking around. I said "us", but it's really just Christine because people don't stare in my direction when she's not around. :) The first time she walked around by herself, someone followed her for several blocks asking if she needed any assistance and where she was from. I think those experiences have really discouraged her from venturing out too much. There's a lot to see in Bangalore on the weekend though so hopefully I'll be able to show her what a great city this place really is.
